About

Our team’s objective is to develop decision-support and analysis methods for advancing equity in transportation systems and infrastructure design, planning, and policy. Starting from a regional and local transportation planning perspective, we aim to address transportation equity issues through multiple pathways, including representativeness in travel data, innovations in travel demand modeling that capture the needs  and preferences of disadvantaged communities, and measurement of fairness in transportation system and policy outcomes: Transportation equity analysis.

  • Data Collection and Curation: We collect and perform assessments of how well available travel surveys reflect disadvantaged travelers’ behavior and needs.
  • Model Development: We use discrete choice and regression-based modeling approaches to (1) understand the travel behavior of disadvantaged travelers and (2) evaluate the distribution of system and policy outcomes.
  • Scenario Analysis and Impact Measurement: We test existing transportation performance measures and develop new performance measures (e.g. accessibility, consumer surplus, service reliability, etc.) for understanding fairness in the distribution of outcomes of transportation systems and policies.
