About

Our team’s objective is to develop decision-support tools and analysis methods for advancing equity in transportation systems and infrastructure design, planning, and policy. Starting from a regional and local transportation planning perspective, we aim to address transportation equity issues through multiple pathways, including representativeness in travel data, innovations in travel demand modeling that capture the needs and preferences of disadvantaged communities, and measurement of fairness in transportation system and policy outcomes: Transportation equity analysis.

  • Data Collection, Data Fusion, and Curation: We collect and perform assessments of how well available travel surveys reflect disadvantaged travelers’ behavior and needs. We also develop data fusion approaches for boosting the richness and behavioral representativeness of travel data.
  • Model Development: We implement discrete choice and other econometric modeling approaches to (1) study the distinct travel behaviors of disadvantaged travelers and (2) evaluate the distribution of system and policy outcomes across communities.
  • Scenario Analysis and Impact Measurement: We test existing transportation performance measures and develop new performance measures (e.g. accessibility, consumer surplus, service reliability, etc.) for understanding fairness in the distribution of outcomes of transportation systems and policies.
